Story Codes Explained
Additional Story Code reading.... For Authors....Avoid listing redundant or unknown codesI have placed a long list of story categories on the main page so that readers can quickly bring up a list of stories that match their interest. Readers have long asked for this feature, I have finally had the time to do this. Now the problem exists of authors using extremely abbreviated story codes. If a reader is searching for a "transvestite" story and an author used the abbreviation "tr" instead of "trans" or "transvestite", then the story will not appear in the reader's results. For the time being I have made some exceptions to the categories search. One example is one particular author's use of the abbreviation for mother, "mot". No reader is going to enter "mot" into the search box when searching for "mother". However, in the quick search categories list I have allowed "mot" as a temporary code. While this exception properly lists the stories of the author using "mot" it also brings up irrelevant stories containing any variation of "mot", such as "emot" "motor" and so on. To combat this, I have created a form for authors to Refine their Story Codes so that their stories will appear correctly in the search results. This page is linked off the Author's Account page. Try checking your own story codes by entering them into the search engine and see if your story appears. It may not be on the first page, but it should appear if your stories are coded properly. Before asking questions here, visit the change_story_codes page and read that first. Remember, many readers use the search engine and by using accurate codes will keep readers reading some of your older stories. Using inaccurate codes will keep your stories from appearing in the search engine results, and using false codes in order to boost your readership will cause readers to discontinue using the search engine and begin looking elsewhere.
