Q: I cannot find the file after downloading, I use Netscape.
A: In Netscape, on the file menu go to "EDIT", then "Preferences", then "Applications", then "File types", find the file-type extension "WINZIP" and double-click it. Then make sure the box "save to disk" is unchecked. Then click the box below that "Ask me before downloading......"

      Unzipping Instructions....

Step by step instructions for configuring your browser to handle WinZip files:

Using Windows95, you have the choice of 'Opening the File' or 'Saving to Disk'.

Win95 will warn about the possibility of a virus contained within the file. Do not worry about this generic warning, a true virus cannot exist within a text file and none of my files contain viri anyway. If you are still paranoid, go to McAfee's Anti-virus Page and read their horror stories instead.

'Opening File': Allows you to read the stories on the Fly. When prompted, choose to 'open the file' and Winzip95 ver 7 will open the zip for instant reading. The file will not be saved to your hard drive. Note: You must have text and zip files properly associated with your OS.

'Saving to Disk': Allows you to save the story to the hard drive for later reading. After you obtain the new Winzip95 version 7 , select a story.zip. Choose to 'save to disk' when prompted by your browser.

Using Pkunzip.exe in a Windows dosbox....Select Start...Run... type 'command' and hit enter....Make sure pkzunzip.exe is properly pointed to in your path statement. Amend your path statement to include the location of pkunzip.exe with the following DOS command: At the c:\ prompt, type path %path%;c:\pkz, where c:\pkz is the directory where pkunzip.exe resides.

In DOS, to unzip all the files at once, use the command pkunzip *.zip.

Using Winzip6.0, open the zipfile (File...open...click on file, click OK), then Extract.

The resulting .txt files are now ready to view with any text viewer.

      Utilities

      PKUNZIP program for DOS.

Winzip95 version 7.0 ....the easiest unzipping program.
      For Windows3.1 use Winzip6.0

Unzip 5.12 program for MAC ....the other to try, Mac-binh.x40.

      Unzip program for Amiga.

      Troubleshooting....

      Windows 3.1/DOS

If you are getting the error message, 'bad command or filename', make sure pkzunzip.exe is in your path statement. Amend your path statement to include the location of pkunzip.exe with the following DOS command: At the c:\ prompt, type path %path%;c:\pkz, where c:\pkz is the directory where pkunzip.exe resides.

You may try pkzipfix.exe if your connection is noisy and you're constantly getting corrupted zipfiles. Download and type c:\>pkzipfix /? for command line options. Note: this method only works some of the time, better to try and re-download a better copy.

      Windows 95/98/NT

If you are still having problems...

        Download or re-setup Winzip 7.0
Accept all defaults (choose: "Classic Mode") using setup wizard and try again.

For more detailed unzipping instructions, go to Pkware's Page and read the Pkzip FAQ or go to Winzip's page.

      AOL

Problem: page will not load, files will not download, AOL icon keeps spinning and spinning.

Answer:Minimize your AOL screen. (Click on that little dash in the upper righthand corner next to the x). Click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop. Any version of AOL 3.0 and above automatically comes with this. Then enter http://www.mrdouble.com where the URL goes. Also make sure Winzip is installed on your system.

      WebTV

Problem: story is cut off at end.

Reason: WebTV informs us that they limit bandwidth to their subscribers based on current load. Some days may see cutoffs after 5-10k, other days after 40-50k.

      MSN/WEBTV-2

Question: Will MSN/WEBTV-2 work with this site ?

Answer: No, MSN/WEBTV-2 is not a computer, it has no hard drive and cannot run programs like winzip or otherwise unzip zipped files. While MSN has the ability to unzip files for you as did WebTV, they choose not to provide you with that service citing virus concerns.

      Mac/Amiga/Unix

The unregistered version of ZipIt , StuffIt DeLuxe, v. 4.0, Unzip 2.01, Unzip 5.12 or mac-binh.x40 all unzip (the last 2 programs are for the technically advanced.)
Note: These files have not been certified by Mr Double. Use at your own risk
Mac users may also try Stuffit Expander or also at: ZDNet

      Amiga Users:

The file Unzip512x.lha is available here for Amiga users to unzip with.
Note: This file has not been certified by Mr Double. Use at your own risk.

      UNIX users:

A reader writes: "I unzipped them successfully using unzip511".
