"There! Everything's ready," she said.

Just then, a young girl came running out of the house. She had long, straight brown hair, dark brown eyes, a small nose, and a beautiful smile. She was wearing a fancy white dress, which came down just below her knees, with lacy frills along the bottom and at the ends of the short sleeves, which ended at the middle of her upper arm. Her legs were clad in white nylon stockings, and there were black shoes on her feet.

"Is that my birthday cake?" she asked excited, running up to her mom.

"Yes, Holly, it is," Theresa said. "But I thought I told you that you couldn't see it until the party."

"Aaah, Mom!" Holly complained. "I'm just too excited to wait! Can I please see it?"

"Oh, all right."

Holly eagerly ran up to the table to look at the cake. It was a rectangular cake, with pink frosting, and a unicorn on one side. Holly had always loved unicorns. Across from the unicorn the cake read, 'Happy Birthday Holly' in yellow letters.

"Oh Mom, it's lovely! I love it!"

"I'm glad you like it, dear."

Just then they both heard the doorbell ringing.

"Go answer the door, honey," Theresa said.

"Yes Mom," Holly replied, running into the house and to the front door. "Misty! Hi!" she exclaimed as she opened the door, and was greeted by her best friend.

"Hi Holly!" Misty said. "Happy birthday."

"Thanks!" Holly said, taking the present that Misty held out for her. "Did your mom just drop you off?" Holly asked as she closed the door and led her friend into the back yard.

"Yeah. She said just to call when I was ready to be picked up."

Misty was slightly shorter than Holly. She had curly red hair that went down to her shoulders, and was wearing a dress almost identical to her friend's, except that it was a pale green instead of white.

"Misty's here, Mom!" Holly said.

"Hello, Mrs. Osborne."

"Hello, Misty. Here, I'll take your present, Holly, and put it with ours."
