Thomas: Learning to Live Again
Written by Ron
On the bench lay the unfortunate Antonio Gardina, blindfolded with hands and ankles tied together, squirming against his bonds. "I didn't do nothin'," he protested. "You got the wrong man. I don't know nothin' and I didn't do nothin'."
The blindfold preventing him seeing anything was tied so tightly against his eyes it made them ache from the inside out. Like all the others that had lain on the bench before him, the man couldn't understand how his questioner seemed to know so much He figured his captor was trying to think how he could pin something on him but he was going to weasel his way out of this one. Just like he'd done so many times before he was already planning the lies so he wouldn't cross them up. Besides, it wasn't his fault, it would never be his fault. He would think himself the victim and he wouldn't be too far off in that thought. He was about to learn what it meant to be a victim, a helpless, hopeless victim.
"I see," his questioner stated.
His arms were pulled roughly together and a rope looped around one bicep, the other one grabbed to loop the rope around it too. Antonio was getting a little worried now. This wasn't what was supposed to happen, especially not to someone as important as him. Between his shoulder blades he felt a knot tie the ends together then a little tug, pulling the knot a bit tighter. Antonio shook when the rope was pulled roughly.
"I told you I didn't do nothin'," he lied again, a little shakier. "It's not me. It's gotta be someone else. I didn't do anything. I don't even know who you're talking about. What youse doin'? Why youse have me here? It's not my fault, it's gotta be someone else. You can't do this. It's against the law."
The voice said cooly, "Yes. It is. But I'm not the law. I am your worst nightmare come to life. I am the avenging angel that is going to show you the error of your ways. I am the one person that you are going to regret ever meeting." A rod was placed under the upper rope, a tug and he gave it a half turn to take up slack in the rope then turned the rod to take up tension.
"What youse doin'? You can't do this! I didn't do nuttin', I swear to god I didn't do nuttin'. You can't do this! I got rights! Who you think you are?" The bound man sounded a bit desperate and growing a whole bunch of scared.
"I was telling you who I am before you interrupted. You see, I know about you, Antonio. I found you. Now you are going to tell me everything." He gave the rod another twist and a tug, getting a squeak then a terror-filled yelp out of the bound man.
"You can't do this. Stop it. What the fuck you think youse doin'? I got rights! You can't do dis," the bound man yelled out, losing all culture in his speech.
"You have no rights here and I CAN do this," was the answer and a another turn came on the ropes, pulling Antonio's arms and twisting at his shoulders.
"Someone should have done this a long time ago, making you feel the pain of all the people you've victimized. Instead, you were accused but got off with lawyers, witnesses intimidated or murdered. You never went to prison. Now it's too late for prison. You see, I am your missed conscience. I am going to show you the truth and the light. I am the left hand of god and you are here to learn something about yourself." The rod took another turn and Antonio yelled, this time in realized fear as the pain started burning in his shoulders.
"Is she alive?" he asked and pulled at the rod.
