Rescue.......

Jack adored his 9 year old niece, Sarah.

As a matter of fact, he loved her. He had always have. Especially after that one night last month, when he was staying with his brother and sister in law for a week.

He didn't care too much for them. They were always drinking, and now were doing hard drugs. They were both out of work, living on welfare. Jack was angry with them. The clothes and toys he had gotten for their daughter were sold.

No doubt for drugs and booze, he thought angrily.

And now he was on the road, dealing with the three hour drive to his brother's house....on a rescue mission. Less than an hour ago he had gotten a call from his niece. She was crying and and told him that her mommy and daddy are making her do things.

Jack's heart nearly broke on hearing her tearful pleas. He told her that he was on his way.

And now he was on the highway, doing 75 on a 55 mph road. Jack wanted to get to her, to get her out of that enviornment of booze and drugs and poverty. He loved her, and would do anything for her.

As he drove, he remembered the night he loved her.........

She had come into his room, tearful and scared.

"Honey what's wrong?" Jack asked, sitting up in bed. Sarah came to the bed, sniffling and crying. A thunderstorm raged outside, each thunderclap shaking the fragile window frames. The glass panels shook and trembled.

"I'm scared, Uncle Jack." she said.

"Where's your mother?" He asked.

"With Daddy. I think they're fighting again, Uncle Jack. Their bedroom door was open and Daddy and mommy are fighting."

Jack looked alittle worried. He knew that his brother and sister in law were drinking heavily and fighting earlier. He thought it wise to check on them.

He got out of bed.

"You get in bed, honey. I'll go check on them."

Happily Sarah jumped onto the bed. Jack pulled the thin blanket over her small body and tucked the end under her cheek. He leaned down and kissed her gently on the forehead.
