Show and Tell Gang

Bobby sat at the top of the jungle gym during recess. His best friend Jake sat just a ring below hanging by only his legs as he rested upside down. The two boys were usually on the jungle gym with a few others, but today they were alone. Bobby Tucker had known Jake Brown since the two of them were only three, now they were nine and the two were really inseparable. Bobby didn't see race, and neither did Jake of course they were both preteen boys that had been raised to believe that race was a non-issue. Jake was a mix, his mother was white and his father black and thus Jake had taken a little from both races. His skin was a little darker than that of a middle-eastern person, but his hair was a dull brown that hung down almost to his shoulders and needed to be cut. Jake also had green eyes which was something you didn't see on someone with his complexion all that much.

Bobby was the opposite. He had been born with blonde hair and a very fair white complexion. His eyes were large and dark blue like the sea. Where Jake was tall already Bobby was a good four or five inches shorter than most kids his age. The boy wore clothes that were usually a little too big for him, that his mother insisted he would grow into, though he hadn't yet. He was small but Bobby was also fast and knew how to protect himself. The fact was no one messed with either Bobby or Jake and not just because they were together. Bobby and Jake were best friends, but on top of that for some reason they were the two most recognized boys in their fourth grade.

Jake swung back up just then and said, "So when do we take that shitty test again?" A couple of years ago Jake had just casually started cussing while at school or when the two boys were out of earshot of their parents. Bobby had taken it as best as he could, but he still couldn't bring himself to cuss as much as Jake did though sometimes he did when he got hurt.

"I dunno, I think tomorrow." Jake just nodded and slipped from the bars sliding down off of the jungle gym and as he did Bobby started down as well.

Bobby was just stepping off the last rung when she spoke, "Hey Jake, hey Robert." There was only one person in the world besides his mom that called Bobby, Robert. That was Alyssa Johanson. Bobby looked at her. She was dressed today in a white dress that ended at her knees. The dress hung onto her shoulders by small straps and was tight against her flat chest. Her hair was a dark black, almost the color of a raven's feathers. Her eyes were large circles and sky blue which looked almost unreal with her dark hair. She had a small button nose and full lush lips that surely did not belong on a nine year old girl. Alyssa was thin as well, almost nothing but skin and bones, though she did appear to have flesh in some places. The girl was beautiful, but Bobby was nine and hadn't fully grasped that just yet. Probably because she was the same age as him.

Jake responded to her, "Hey Lyssa. How's it going?" Alyssa shrugged.

She looked right at Bobby so he knew he had to respond, "hey Alyssa." Then he took Jake's arm and said, "sorry but we gotta go. Promised to play some hoops today." He tugged at Jake and didn't see that his best friend gave Alyssa a 'sorry about that' look. The two boys headed over to the basketball court leaving Alyssa behind. The young girl sighed and turned walking back over to where a few other girls were. Alyssa had liked Bobby since the second grade when she had moved to this small town and the boy just didn't get it. Nope he didn't get it at all. She should have known too because he was only nine, but she hoped that something would change that someday.

Bobby and Jake played ball with a few other boys until the bell rang and everyone headed back into the school to finish their lessons for the day. When the final bell rang Bobby hurried out of the school and with Jake climbed onto the bus that would take them home. Alyssa who lived one street over from Bobby and Jake sat about two rows ahead of them on the bus with another girl. The girl was Jennifer Thomas, Jennifer Thomas was two years younger than Bobby. The girl had dirty blonde hair and large brown eyes. She had a small turned up nose and thin lips that somehow still appeared to be full. She wore jeans and a tee-shirt today as she sat down net to Alyssa. The two girls were talking almost instantly. Jennifer may have only been seven but apparently she had been a friend of Alyssa's for a long while.

The truth of the matter was that Jennifer lived in the house next to Alyssa's house. Jennifer and Alyssa had a few things in common, but more than that they had just become friends because they lived so close to one another. It also helped that Alyssa's parents had a pool and the two girls could use it whenever they wanted to. So they sat two rows ahead of Jake and Bobby and Alyssa did this on purpose. Bobby always got out before she did so she could watch him get out. The young nine year old girl really did have a huge crush on the boy of the same age. What Alyssa hadn't known until recently was that the reason why Jen liked to go to every little league game with her was that Jake was going to them. Alyssa wasn't even aware that her best friend had a crush on her crushes' best friend. That was the life of a preteen.

The bus finally came to his stop and Bobby along with Jake got off of the bus. The two boys headed down the street towards their homes. Jake lived across the street from Bobby and at one point a few years ago before they were kindergarten their parents had stressed that they couldn't cross the street without a parents permission. Much to the dismay of the two boys who disobeyed the rule whenever they got the chance to. As Bobby started to head up to his house Jake said, "I'll see ya later." Bobby just nodded and headed up into the house. He didn't have to unlock the door because his big sister was already home.

Clara Tucker was thirteen and from the time she was four until now she hadn't wanted a little brother. As far as she could tell they were nothing but trouble with a capital T. Clara had been thrilled when her mom had told her she was pregnant, that was until she had found out it was a boy. The four year old had already had a few problems with boys in the past and she sure didn't want one for a brother. The first few years were okay, though in her mind it seemed like her parents paid more attention to the baby than they did to her. It didn't help that she had always been such a problem child and from the moment he was born Robert James Tucker had been sweet and had slept through the night by the time he was just three months old.

Clara had the same blonde hair as Bobby, but her complexion was not as fair as his. She had inherited that from their father along with his brown eyes. Clara would have also inherited her mother's slender body if not for the simple fact that Clara stuffed her face with a lot of junk that she didn't need. If her parents wouldn't give her all the attention she needed then food sure did. She was chunky, not overweight, but chunky. It was weight that didn't belong on her frame so it did make her look over weight.

As Bobby entered the house Clara looked up from the couch, "What did you do with my sweater you little shit." Until then Bobby had forgotten about Sunday evening. Clara had left out a sweater she intended to wear just yesterday evening for today. Bobby out of spite because earlier in the day that day she had made him get off of his game because she wanted to watch television. She hadn't told him to get off, or even let him save. She had just turned the machine off and told him to get out of the room. When he had refused she had gotten angry and he had run out of the room. That was when he had taken the sweater.

Clara knew that she couldn't do anything to Bobby during the day time because her mom would just intercede and Bobby would give the sweater back. It was more fun for her to wait till the afternoon when they were alone for a few hours. That was when she would get the little shit and make him give her sweater back to her. "I don't know what you mean Clara."

"Don't give me that you little fuck-head." Clara cussed far more than Jake did. The worst of it was that she called Bobby cuss names and he hated that! She stood, Clara was a good eighty or so pounds bigger than Bobby. She was taller and she had girth. She scared Bobby. "Where is it? Or are you going to make me force you to give it back?"

"What sweater?"

"Oh you little fu-." SHe didn't finish because she was already lunging for him. Bobby knew better than to stay where he was. The young boy took off running away from his sister. He ran up the airs and down the hall. Clara was slower than him because of the size difference, so he quickly ran up the stairs and disappeared down the hall towards their parent's room. He opened the door to their parent's room and ran past a dresser with a picture of the entire family on it. They were all smiling and Clara had her hand around Bobby's shoulders. What a fake picture indeed. Bobby slipped under his parent's bed figuring that this might be the best place to hide today. Clara rarely looked under beds. He hadn't hidden her sweater, it was just right there under her bed. ......(cont)
